I was terrified of trains

“My name is Laxman. I’m from Rajasthan. I’m from a low caste. My father died when I was 7 years old. We are three brothers and four sisters. I had the responsibility of all my siblings after he died. I left school and worked hard to get them married. When I first came to Mumbai from the village, I was terrified of trains. It was a strange city for me, and I didn’t know anybody. Now, I’m not scared of trains anymore. In fact, except GOD, I’m not afraid of anyone. Life has made me tough. My brothers do farming, and they are able to support my mom. I also send them money from here if they need it. Most of my money went into dowery of my sisters. Despite all these hardships, I’ve learned to be happy with myself.”
